The Tea Series is based around a family with one foot firmly lodged in tradition and the other somewhat precariously stepping into modern life. The two main characters, Cara and Teagan, are sisters who depend on each other, family, and friends to help them maneuver through life and the obstacles they encounter. Each book borrows from the ones before and leads to those that follow, just as life intermingles history with future.
The writing and the characters have matured as the series evolves. I’ve thought about going back and rewriting the early books, but instead refreshed them, cleaning up some of my new writer mistakes and annoying tendencies. I do not feel going back and rushing the development (of the characters or my writing) would improve the experience for the majority of my readers.
I’m proud of the fact the characters grow and mature as the writing does. I’ve seen reviews of other long series and the criticism is often that the books become somewhat formulaic. You know what’s going to happen well before the character blows up the car or bungles the approach.
Many, many readers have reached out and informed me my characters become members of their family. They share with me that they laugh, cry, and learn; some feel they look at life a little differently after reading this series. I hope your experience will be the same.
