Some characters deserve their own voice. Following the success of The Tea Series, I was excited to create stories based around fan favorites who weren’t in the forefront of that series, giving readers the opportunity to share in their world. While The Tea Series focuses on the twenty-something O’Flynn sisters Cara and Teagan, The Girls centers on their more mature counterparts.
Carolyn (Cara’s grandmother-in-law), Adeline (Cara’s boss), and Anna (Cara’s sister-in-law’s great aunt) all met at O’Flynn family functions. They took the initiative to build on those brief encounters and establish strong and supportive friendships.
Carolyn is a retired schoolteacher that found her own children to be a challenge. When they were young, they were manageable but somehow didn’t develop into the nurturers she’d hoped for. She feels her grandchildren suffer to this day. Adeline has been married to a number of powerful and wealthy men. While two of her children reflect their father’s less attractive attributes; her youngest daughter is everything a parent could hope for. Anna was not blessed with children. She was, however, given all the nieces and nephews she needed and the perfect balance of tenderness and perseverance.
They have life experience, come from very different backgrounds, and find themselves without spouses during what could possibly be the most exciting/challenging parts of their lives.
